olas2Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens provides and promotes a therapeutic community wildlife garden for all people in the Bro Ddyfi area, and especially those at risk of social exclusion.


The garden is permanently open to the community and is nestled in the public Plas park grounds.

It is currently facilitated on:

Tuesdays 10.30- 4.00pm  Adult Volunteers

Thursdays 10.30am – 4.00pm Adult Volunteers.

Do feel free to drop in for some or all of this – all welcome! Refreshments are provided

Sessions are facilitated by Kate Doubleday and Fiona Underhill.

Job vacancy –  Senior Garden Volunteer Co-ordinator

Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens is an organic wildlife garden in the heart of Machynlleth.  We provide and promote a social and therapeutic community garden for all people in the Bro Ddyfi area, and especially to those at risk of social exclusion.

The beautiful gardens include a wildflower meadow, widlife pond, a nectar rich border for pollinators, apothecary garden and vegetable beds. We are nationally recognised by the ‘Green Flag scheme’, ‘Coronation Meadows’ & the Welsh Government (as a ‘Bee Friendly’ site).

The post includes 2 days working with volunteers in the gardens on Tuesdays & Thursdays (12 hrs) leading volunteer activity sessions, welcoming visitors. A further (4 hrs) for admin, dealing with records, liaising with external organisations & working with our committee and related parties to further the work done for our volunteers and at the garden.

Wage – £240 per week for 6 months initially, on a self employed basis.

Essential qualifications required

  •  A qualification in Horticulture or Social and Horticultural Therapy (Degree, Diploma or City & Guilds).

Desirable skills

  • Previous work experience with volunteers in a ‘therapeutic’ environment
  • Good communication skills
  • Some project managing experience
  • A working knowledge of social media and IT skills
  • Current DBS check (not essential, but needed before taking up position)

Not necessary, but a willingness to embrace the Welsh Language would be good also.
